VAL DI PEIO
In Val di Peio you can also dedicate part of your holiday to history and art. A visit that you absolutely must make is the one to Casa Grazioli which is located in the village of Strombiano, a splendid residence, carefully maintained and intact, to give you access to part of the peasant history of our villagers. Another place that deserves a visit is the "Peio 1914-1918 - La Guerra sulla porta" White War museum, where there is a collection of relics, weapons and photographs from the First World War recovered on the Tonale and Ortles fronts. And if you are interested in discovering ancient flavours, don't miss a visit to the Turnario Dairy in Peio Paese which is the last one in Trentino and is still in operation today. Here butter and cheese (casolét and nostrano) are produced daily in the traditional way with the milk of cows and goats raised in the area.
Moving away from the Val di Pejo we can recommend a visit to Forte Strino, along the Tonale road; this fort, which belongs to the Trentino fortification system, played a very important role during the First World War. An interesting visit is also to Castel San Michele in Ossana dated around the 13th century and Castel Caldes, located at the entrance to the Val di Sole. The first nucleus of the castle dates back to the first half of the 13th century.
